Project Deployment Summary:

Budget and Planning, Dashboards and Alerts Reports

This module allows business managers to create different scenarios by changing different parameters, such as estimated earnings per day for a vessel, exchange rate, number of operational days for a vessel, amounts budgeted for different expense heads, and so on.

The user can also have a what-if based view, where he can analyze changes in cash flow in case the company purchases a new vessel, sells an existing vessel, or moves dry docking period for a vessel and take right decisions for better management.

Dashboards and Alerts

The top management is provided with a set of dashboards that give them an overall view of company performance across different areas such as fleet management, finance, etc. This is information at a glance and users can then drill down to check the details of any information.

The users are provided with alerts on occurrence of a pre-defined exception, such as off-hire exceeds estimated limits, vetting due within a month, ISM audits due within a month, receivables overdue, hire/freight due for more than 4 days, and so on.

Web Information Delivery

Users from different departments are provided with a wide range of web based information reports, which are available to them in different formats such as DHTML for browsers, and Excel and PDF for storage on local machines. These reports are available to them through the existing Oracle forms interface, and also via our browser-based portal. There are also ad-hoc reports based on parameters passed by users, which run on demand or can be scheduled to run at a predefined time.

Analytical Views

These are used to analyze information such as Vessel Performance, Aging Analysis i.e. Cash Management, Profitability Analysis, Budgetary Control which covers technical expenses, manning cost, admin expenses, etc. The users can slice-dice (cause of accident, loss in hours/USD, geography, voyage type, etc), drill down (vessel, period), view graphically, trend analysis (speed consumption, stoppages, TCY trends), comparative analysis (quantity, year, estimates, marketreports).

The data for all the above modules comes from different applications such as Shipnet, MLM, AMOS, eProc, Accounting, etc.

The Challenges

  • Integration of data from hybrid data sources such as unstructured multiple Excel sheets and Oracle databases
  • Seamless Integration with Oracle forms for all web-based information reporting and analysis required by different departments across the organization.

Business Benefits, Technical Differentiators

Prior to our web based integrated solution, comprehensive analysis across different business areas were not available leading to inadequate information for key technical and vessel-related decision. Even though this information was available, it used to take lot of manual efforts to summarize and generate.
Personalized portal with dashboards for top management, which provides flexibility for viewing summarized and detail information across major financial indicators.
Effective proactive decision making on issues such as purchase/sales of vessels, upgrades of machinery, vessel maintenance, material management
Facilitates performance monitoring by controlling overall parameters governing vessel performance and also by providing adequate information and exceptions in case of deviations
